Shortly put,

Suryakumar wasn’t having the best of times during the West Indies tour. On Tuesday, he got his 14th T20I fifty.
Suryakumar scored 83 points off 44 shots.

In his cricketing career, Suryakumar had been having some trouble. Fans and experts alike have expressed concern over his performance in the ODI series and the first T20I matchups against the West Indies in 2023.

He averaged 26 in three games during the recently finished series against the West Indies, scoring a total of 78 runs. In the opening T20I match of the series, he could only muster 21 runs due to his subpar performance.

He only scored 22 runs at a 92 strike rate in the first two games of the IND versus WI T20 series. His past T20 cricket exploits were in stark contrast to this. In those earlier contests, he had amassed 1792 runs in 50 innings across 52 games, with a best score of 117 and an amazing strike rate of 171.8.

A turning point for Suryakumar occurred during the third T20I match against the West Indies. He put on a commendable performance, reminding everyone of his strengths, and is known for his resiliency and capacity to pick himself up after setbacks.

With a boundary and a six off his first two deliveries, Suraykumar announced his entry into the crease and then continued. The 32-year-old didn’t let up even when India’s opening pair were cheaply dismissed while chasing 160 runs.

The West Indies were helpless to stem the tide of runs as the Indian batsman eventually scored his 14th T20I fifty off just 23 deliveries. The 32-year-old didn’t stop there, continuing to smack boundaries whenever he felt like it to give India the upper hand in the game.

A total of 10 boundaries and four sixes made up Suryakumar’s innings before he was finally bowled out for 83 off 44 deliveries.

Suryakumar will be aiming to build on this momentum and end the series on a positive note with two more games remaining.

Suryakumar was born on 14 September 1990 in Mumbai, India. He made his first-class cricket debut for Mumbai in the 2010–11 Ranji Trophy. He started playing for Mumbai Indians in the IPL in 2018 and soon became a star player.

Suryakumar is known for his aggressive batting style and match-winning ability. He often comes in the last overs of the match to help India win. He has scored 4 centuries and 12 half-centuries in ODI cricket, and 2 centuries and 25 half-centuries in T20I cricket.

Suryakumar was ranked No. 1 in the ICC T20I batting rankings for 2022. He is an important player for India and is expected to make even more significant contributions to the team in the upcoming years.
